a report from the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation - December 2006

President’s Message

Greetings to all Tehachapi Hospital Foundation members and supporters. 2006 has been a good year for your Foundation. Some highlights of the year follow.

Tehachapi Hospital Foundation now has a complete fifteen member working Board of Directors. Since our last communication, we have added three new Board members. First to join us was Aimee Hansen, a medical assistant with Sierra Family Care. Our second new member was Brian Doe, Chief Financial Officer of the Tehachapi Valley Hospital District. Last to join us, but not least, is Janet Fulks, a professor of Health Science at Bakersfield College. Your Board underwent an extensive, two-session, educational training in 2006, the purpose of which was to teach organizational, motivational and fund raising skills. We are ready to accept the challenge of helping to build our new healthcare facility.

This year, Tehachapi Hospital Foundation was again the beneficiary of significant monetary donations from loyal and new benefactors. A three figure donation was received from both the Tehachapi Congress of Republicans and the Tehachapi Mountain Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; four figure donations were received from the Tehachapi Car Show Committee, James and Addie Roberts and Ron and Laurie Zagers. The John and Katherine Gurash Foundation continues to support our work with large gifts, a total of $15,000 in 2006. And additionally, a loyal supporter/member whose continuing generosity and wish for anonymity we honor, made a large donation of $20,000 for this year.

We were also blessed with two successful fund raising events, The Bacchus and Brunch at Souza Ranch and the annual Round Up at Benz Barn. Together, these two events raised close to $25,000.

Bingo is proving profitable for the Foundation. Please join us any Friday evening at the Tehachapi Veterans Hall on “F” Street for Bingo and Burgers/Hot Dogs. All net proceeds go to the Foundation. Doors open at 4 PM with games starting at 6 PM.

More exciting events are scheduled for 2007. The Western Romance in the Generous Heart Saloon dinner/dance will be held February 24th at Oak Tree Country Club. A Cinco de Mayo event is proposed for May, 2007, at La Paz, The Chavez National Center, and we plan to continue the September Round Up another year.

Finally, following groundbreaking for the new hospital, our Public Relations committee plans a major membership and fund raising drive based on our new slogan, to be revealed at groundbreaking. Aimee Hansen, Chair of the Public Relations Committee, needs help developing our logo and with poster art work. If you have a secret talent and would like to help, please contact her at (661)822-9105.

I am looking forward to 2007 as a year when we finally begin construction on our new health care facility. I am proud to Chair the board for another year, and welcome the challenges entailed. I wish you all a productive and prosperous 2007.
    Donald T. Daniels, MSHS, PA-C

SAVE THE DATE - FEBRUARY 24, 2007

GET ARRESTED!.....and have fun doing it while helping the new hospital facility. A brand spankin’ new “Western Romance” event is coming Saturday, February 24th ‘07, ‘specially from the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation. We’ll be havin’ a stompin’ good time from 6 to 10:30 P.M. in the Generous Heart Saloon at the Oak Tree Country club. This is your big chance to throw that certain someone in Jail or have their ‘mug’ put on a Wanted poster!

This here’s a gussied-up western dinner dance where you’re likely to spy some characters from the old west like Doc Holiday, Belle Star, Wyatt Earp, Annie Oakley, and maybe a saloon girl or two. Get in the spirit, if you like, and dress accordingly. DJ Mike of Flashback Entertainment will treat you to music from saloon piano to TV western theme songs right on up to the present. There’ll be a special square dance exhibition by the Tehachapi Gandy Dancers, called by Rick Boswell. A wandering photographer will “capture” people on Wanted posters, the sheriff and his deputies will be mingling among the Generous Heart folk hauling all reported ‘scallywags’ to jail!

We’ll be having fabulous special dessert centerpieces, so if you have a great family recipe of Aunt Hettie’s prize winning cake or pie or whatever, please consider making one to donate. These unsurpassable offerings will be available to the highest bidder. Call EJ @ 822-7728 or Linda @ 822-9202 about donating a dessert. We are also looking for Opportunity Basket items, so call Maxine @ 821-1748 or Debby @ 821-3359 if you have a goodie to contribute. We are also looking for a few super silent auction items, especially some kind of vacation/condo time donation would be wonderful.

Contact event chair, Laura Howser @ 822-7030 or co-chair, Jett Tracz @ 821-4080 for further donations, tickets and patronage. The tickets are $85 per couple, $45. for a single, and $500 for a table of 10 with special recognition. We are countin’ on your showin’ up, but iffen t’aint possible, we’ll take whatever you can give. You are all citizens of “Generous Heart” so we know you really want to support the new hospital facility.  Thanks a million!
lhouser

P.S.  The event color poster and invitation have been posted on the Foundation’s official website at thfinc.org.

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN.........
EACH YEAR DUES ARE DUE IN JANUARY!
DUES ARE $10 PER PERSON PER YEAR

Your address label will verify when your membership expires.  While you are checking your address label to verify when your membership expires, consider adding another year or more to that date to further benefit the organization and promote our mission to ultimately benefit you with a new medical facility.

If you are currently a member, a new application need not be returned with your dues unless the information has changed. Each new member-to-be must return a filled out membership application with their dues. NOTE: If spouses are both members, and we hope they are, but have different expirations, we must send each a copy of this report with their own label; if their expirations are the same, only one report/label is generated, an obvious savings to the Foundation.

Applications for new members or members whose information has changed are available from just about any Board Member or may be downloaded as a “PDF” form file from the Foundation website “thfinc.org” through a link on the Membership page and filled out before printing if you wish.

ROUND UP REPORT

Mother nature cooperated with the Round Up this year, the weather was perfect. Although a smaller turn out than in the past, those who attended had a really great time. The auctions went well with the slight adjustment on the live auction (fewer items) and auction times. These changes allowed more time for dancing and getting to know your fellow attendees.

The Tehachapi Train Fund raiser was on display this year. This Train Car Fund Raiser, for those that have not heard, is for donors of $1,000 or more who can choose a train car with their name, company logo, or organization’s name placed on the train car. Eventually this train will be installed in the new hospital facility (with the ability to run) with all the donor cars on display. This will recognize their support and generosity toward our goal. A big thank you to Doug Pickard and Dan Steinberg of the Tehachapi Loop Railroad Club for manning the display. You can view the rolling stock car choices in color and download an order form from our official website, thfinc.org.
We hope this years Round Up will be even bigger and better.

NEW HOSPITAL UPDATE

The application for annexation of the Broome property donated to Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District for the new hospital facility submitted to LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission) has been approved. This is another step forward and, if my memory serves me correctly, the Broome property can now be deeded to Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District. When this occurs the property will belong to TVHD and a ground breaking can occur. The plans for the facility have been resubmitted to OSHPD with their concerns addressed. Upon their approval we can request bids for construction. Hopefully the major hurdles have been addressed, and we can concentrate on getting things under construction. I am sure we will all be happy to see something finally happening, I know I will!

Now, more than ever, we will need to concentrate on membership and fund raising. Membership has been declining, and my guess is because of frustration, not seeing anything happening. Most of what has been going on has been at the city, county and state level. We need your continued support and please contact your neighbors and any newcomers to the area that you may meet to become members. This will help us to continue raising funds for the new facility. Keep in mind, this new facility will benefit all of us. The life you save may be yours or your loved ones! This is an old saying, but it’s true and you don’t think hospital until you need it!

NEEDS REPEATING

According to our bylaws, as Second Vice Chair, it is my duty to serve as chair of the Fund Raising Committee and appoint chairs of all fund raising committees. It is in this capacity that I would like to request volunteers to assist in fund raising events. If you would like to help, whenever possible, your assistance will be greatly appreciated. If we can compile a list of persons willing to help (men and women) whom we can contact, it will be much easier on those called upon most often. Fund raising and membership are not a “one or two man band”; those who could be called upon once or twice a year to help those who are consistent, would be a tremendous help. WE CANNOT DO IT ALONE! Call Priscilla @ 822-6159 if you are willing to help. Thank you.
plm

More Reminders

We continue soliciting unique fund raising event ideas; if you have any, please pass it on to one of our directors, or attend a meeting and share it. Regarding meetings, the Foundation meetings are the SECOND TUESDAY of each month at 6 p.m. in the Hospital Conference Room. These meetings are open and members and nonmembers are always welcome to attend. We try to limit the length of our meetings to one hour, but on occasion they run a little longer. Please do attend.

While you are on this report page look at your address label to verify when your Foundation membership expires. Please consider adding another year or more to that date to further benefit the organization and promote our mission to ultimately benefit you with a new medical facility. The cost is only $10 per additional year per person. If you are currently a member, a new application need not be returned with your dues unless your situation and/or the information has changed. Each new “member-to-be” must return a filled out membership application with their dues. Applications are available from any Director or Priscilla Mester, Membership Chair, 661-822-6159, or downloadable from our website.    Those news junkies out there can appreciate the Foundation “enews” website, deskof.com/thfinc/enews/, to get the latest Foundation news fastest. The site has been created by member Jeff Haswell, who has our gratitude.

Unique Donation Opportunity

Do you have an operating automobile you wish to dispose of?  Consider donating that treasure to the Foundation to reap whatever tax rewards that donation may offer. Since our inception three such vehicles have resulted in $4500 added to the Foundation treasury. Contact the CFO of the Tehachapi Hospital for further details.

a report from the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation - August 2006

Volunteering*
No service or not for profit organization can exist and fulfill its charitable purposes in today's competitive environment without large levels of support from a dedicated pool of volunteers. At Tehachapi Hospital Foundation, we currently need to raise $2 million to fulfill our mission to help in completing the new Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District hospital. The Board needs your help!
Volunteerism has been a part of American society since the early days of our country. In those early days, churches and religious organizations, through their volunteers, played a vital role in helping the sick and poor, fighting illiteracy, women's suffrage, antislavery and prison reform, to name a few. Women were most likely to volunteer in those days, although nowadays, volunteers come from every walk of life.

Why do people volunteer? People volunteer for a variety of reasons, such as altruism, socialization, self-satisfaction, status or reward. Whatever the reason, people volunteer to fulfill a need within themselves.  An organization that understands and taps into the needs and motivations of its volunteers will be better positioned to enhance the volunteer's commitment to the organization and the success of both the organization and the volunteer.

How does an organization recruit and motivate its volunteers? Riley, Schott and Schultinik (2001), utilizing Maslow's hierarchy of needs and Tjosvold's five premises, classified volunteers into three categories based on their needs and motivating factors. These categories are achievers, power extension and high affiliation. The trick, according to Riley, Schott and Schultinik, is to assign volunteers to the category in which they best fit. Volunteers who are motivated by achievement can be assigned tasks involving fund raising and campaign membership. Those volunteers who are motivated by power extension can be given the task of public speaking and committees related to planning and policy. Volunteers who are motivated by high affiliation can be assigned to client services, public relations, program planning and volunteer coordination.

I first became a volunteer when my best friend was critically burned in an apartment fire. We visited in the hospital over a two year healing period and became acquainted with her reconstructive surgeon and her dietitian. When it was discovered that we were computer literate, they proposed a novel project - using the computer and custom software to manage the huge dietary intake required by healing burn patients. We raised money from family and friends, qualified for matching grants from employers, bought the computer and wrote the software for the burn unit ourselves. The project was a huge success, used for many years. And it was a very rewarding beginning for my lifelong career as a volunteer.

Please join Tehachapi Hospital Foundation and become an active volunteer. The rewards are countless and of great personal satisfaction. To help, call Priscilla Mester at (661)822-6159 or Don Daniels at (661)821-0533. Thank you for your support.

REMEMBER - SAVE THE DATE - SEPTEMBER 9, 2006
The Annual Round Up is almost here! This year, just as last, we will be at the Benz Barn in Bear Valley Springs. Mr. Paul Benz has been very supportive of the Foundation and has again let us use his facility. Watch your mail, invitations will be sent. Bear Valley has tightened the gate restrictions once more, we will advise of requirements for entry of those non residents of Bear Valley. We are also going to try and order a bit warmer weather after sundown than last year! Also, we will appreciate those willing to help; fun and good times should be shared. Be part of the planning; that’s what really makes the it all work!

MUSINGS.....QUESTIONS.....THOUGHTS
How many people have had to leave Tehachapi, due to lack of medical services? How many have not come, due to limited medical facilities? How many doctors/specialists, etc. chose to go elsewhere, due to the age and general antiquated overall visual look of the present facility. Everyone in Tehachapi has an opinion of the facility, the doctors, how the hospital is run, what the board should or should not do, but how many take the time to verify? What is fact and what is fiction?
Almost 80% of the registered voters, passed Measure J (the bond parcel tax), that is support! What takes so long to see progress, look at Holiday Inn Express and Home Depot? How many have taken the time to actually find out what is the process and the time requirements, not to mention costs involved, prior to approval to break ground? Do they have any idea of the expense involved: 1) having to replace obsolete equipment with more advanced? 2) replacement costs of computer equipment plus the extremely costly specialized programs required for their medical use? 3) or even the expenditures for the new and ever changing technology to improve treatment?
The ER sees an average 800 to 900 people a month,  how, where do they put them? This can go on and on, at least in my head it can. The Foundation was formed for just these ongoing and never ending needs; it is a fund raising organization. Why is it that with 35 thousand+ residents living in the greater Tehachapi Area, the Foundation paid membership is about 300? That is less than 1% of the total population! I would like to think that perhaps much of the population locally does not know about the Foundation nor what we do. Another thought, do they not see the need to support the new hospital facility? It couldn't be that membership in the Foundation, at only $10 per person per year, is too expensive. I realize I am preaching to the choir. Maybe this should be in a letter to the Editor, Tehachapi News!

NEW FACILITY UPDATE
For those of you who do not read newspapers or haven't been around to catch the news, the Tehachapi City Council at their July 3rd meeting, voted to approve the annexation of the property north of Capitol Hills, donated by Mr. John Broome, for the new hospital facility and also approved the new facility site plan submitted. The next step is submitting both for approval to LAFCO  (Local Agency Formation Commission). Progress is being made, but we all wish it would move faster!

YOU ARE INVITED - AUGUST 26, 2006
Tehachapi Congress of Republicans is holding a Bar B Que Fund Raiser.(see the enclosed flyer). A portion of the funds raised will be donated to the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation and the Bear Valley Springs Explorer Post 320. This explorer group are the young people that were so helpful to the Foundation last year at Mourning Cloak Ranch and at the Round Up at the Benz Barn, setting up and taking down plus doing the traffic control along with parking direction. We hope you can be there, politics aside.

You Can Help Bears Repeating!
You may know of an entity with funds available, or which can be made available, to donate to the Foundation, a nonprofit corporation, in support of a new hospital. We would be happy to supply such  organization or individual with whatever documentation they may require to prove our worthiness as a recipient. Such an entity may be someone you know, a friend, an employer, someone you do business with, a corporation, a private foundation or even a governmental body. It is imperative that to maximize our exposure to potential benefactors, we offer our nonprofit public benefit corporation as a potential recipient wherever funds may be dispersed. You are our eyes and ears to these opportunities.

SHARE THE MESSAGE
We encourage you, our current members, to share this newsletter with your neighbors and friends and invite them to join this worthwhile organization. Especially share the purpose of our Foundation with the many newcomers to the area who may not be aware of the importance of our hospital and its impact on our community. With new community growth comes the need to make quality health care available for the expanding population through modernization of facilities and staffing improvements necessary to fully utilize them.
The Tehachapi Hospital ER treats an average of 800-900 patients per month and requires use of an overflow hospital area every day. There is also a  long waiting list for Long Term Care. It is imperative that we have a healthcare facility with the ability to treat heart attack, stroke, respiratory illness etc.  Tehachapi Hospital is equipped to offer X-ray and Laboratory services on site. It is important for all of us to realize that without our hospital, we would find it necessary to travel more than 50 miles to Bakersfield or Antelope Valley for emergency medical care.
Our very lives may well depend upon building this new hospital which will provide multiple benefits to the entire community.

PLEASE LOOK AT YOUR MAILING LABEL -
HAS YOUR MEMBERSHIP EXPIRED?

Your address label will verify when your membership expires. I must apologize, it was called to my attention that I failed to state the amount of the yearly dues in my last newsletter, sorry! I try to mention it in every newsletter along with the due date, so here goes:
DUES ARE $10 PER PERSON PER YEAR, AND ARE DUE JANUARY OF EACH YEAR.
While you are on this report page please look down at your address label to verify when your Foundation membership expires. Please consider adding another year or more to that date to further benefit the organization and promote our mission to ultimately benefit you with a new medical facility. Caveat:   Membership dues, including prepaid dues, are donations and are not refundable.
If you are currently a member, a new application need not be returned with your dues unless the information has changed. Each new “member-to-be” must return a filled out membership application with their dues. Applications are available from any Director or Priscilla Mester, Vice-Chair, 661-822-6159. Note that if spouses are both members, as we hope they are, but have different expirations, we must send each a copy of this report with their own label; if their expirations are the same, only one report/label is required, at an obvious savings to the Foundation.
We do need your support, your input, your help, and we can always benefit from new ideas. Please, share this newsletter with a nonmember friend. Mail your dues and/or any correspondence to:

a report from the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation - May 2006

FOUNDATION TAKES ON BINGO AT VETERANS HALL
As of April 28, 2006 the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation has been conducting Bingo on Friday nights at the Veterans Hall, downtown Tehachapi. This also includes, food/snack service from 4 p.m. to approximately 8 p.m. This food/snack service includes hamburgers/hot dogs/chips/soft drinks and candy. We really need  some of our members and or friends to volunteer to run the kitchen. We are hoping to get enough volunteers for a regular schedule, so it will not fall on the same people all the time. We do have, at this time, the member crew that is needed to run the bingo gaming portion; they are all volunteering their time and energy to help raise funds for the new hospital facility. All profits from the bingo games and the food service belong to the Foundation. This is just another way you can help by donating your time, and supporting our goals.
WE WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP WITH THIS, so give Priscilla a call at 822-6159.

SAVE THE DATE - July 8, 2006
The Foundation is doing a summer event! BACCHUS AND BRUNCH, at the beautiful Souza Ranch, 26689 Cummins Valley Road in the Cummings Valley, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $35 per person, with a minimum age of 21 required. This summer event will be somewhat different, champagne, brunch, entertainment, and back by popular demand “the Cookie Sale, buyer’s choice assortments”. We are also working on a special surprise fun event. The only donations are a portion ($20) of ticket purchase and your cookie purchases. Tickets will be by advance purchase, none sold at the entrance. Just come, relax, enjoy good food, refreshments, entertainment; visit with old friends and meet some new ones. I am sure Patty Souza could be persuaded to give those that have not seen their beautiful Victorian home a tour. Tickets will be available from Old Towne Nursery, Foundation board members, or give Priscilla a call, 822-6159.

COOKIES FOR THE COOKIE SALE - July 8, 2006
We are again looking for volunteers to make cookies. Do you have a special cookie recipe that you would be willing to bake and share? Same as last year; “cookies should be out of the ordinary”, such as Mexican Wedding cake cookies, Italian cookies or any unusual cookie recipe you might like to share. The cookies should be less than 2" in size as we plan to sell them as “buyer’s choice assortments”, by the container purchased at the sale. This was so well received last year, and the assortment was fantastic, we hope to have a great response again this year, our cookie bakers are our secret weapons! If you would be interested in participating you must contact Cherrill Gragg at 661-823-0994 or via e-mail at cgragg@bak.rr.com to receive the requisites as determined by the County for “bake sales”. These rules are not at all difficult to follow, common sense really, but shall be observed for safety. Thus, you do not need to be present to help with this event, but we think you would enjoy attending.

HAVE YOU PAID YOUR DUES FOR 2006?
We have tried to make it very easy for you, check your address label to verify when your membership expires. Remember, dues are due January 1 of each year. We need your continued support, and we can always use new ideas, input and help. Renewal checks may be mailed to :
    THF Attn: Membership
    P.O. Box 734
    Tehachapi, CA 93581-0734

THANK YOU FROM YOUR BOARD CHAIR
Fellow Foundation members: as your new Board Chair, I would like to thank you all for supporting the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation. In January, I was asked to serve as Chair, and  am honored to lead the Foundation at this exciting time. Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District is poised to embark on the development of a new healthcare facility for the Valley. On Thursday, May 25th, the City of Tehachapi Planning Commission recommended that the City Council approve annexation of the Broome Ranch parcel to be the home of our new hospital. Design work by Aspen Street Architects is already complete, so groundbreaking seems to be very near. WOW!
I would like to thank Priscilla Mester for her long and remarkable service as Board Chair, and for continuing to help me as I learn my leadership role. Priscilla won't exactly be resting on her laurels (or anything else!) yet, because she remains as Vice-chair of the Board and Chair of the Fundraising Committee. With her leadership, we have several exciting events planned for the summer and fall of this year.
I invite you to volunteer to help out at our new Bingo event, weekly on Fridays, and/or to come and play Bingo for the benefit of the new hospital. I hope to see many of you volunteering and attending our events as you continue to support the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation at this important time in our history.
    Sincere thanks.

Gratefully,
Donald T. Daniels, PA-C

a report from the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation - Year 2005

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - Year End Report

It is obvious what happens when a group pulls together as was the case in 2005; what a year! We had more funding support than ever; it must be that the community is becoming aware of our existence and what we do. I hope that is the case. The Bacchus and Blossoms, A Garden Experience at Mourning Cloak Ranch and The 2005 THF Round Up at the Benz Barn fund raisers were very successful, and we thank Ed Sampson and Paul Benz for their great generosity and support. In addition, we are grateful for the substantial amounts received from the Tehachapi Association of Realtors/Chamber of Commerce, the Tehachapi Car Show Committee, the Bear Valley Springs Mens Golf Club and many private individuals. Thank you, all! The community is continuing to grow, and with it grows the need for quality health care; without this planned new facility we would find it necessary to travel more than 50 miles for emergency care.

We have increased our coffers by a medium to high 5 figures this past year, however we do need to increase our membership. Members making new neighbors aware of the Foundation and our goals enable us to get new ideas, increase our membership and realize those goals. Our purpose is to raise money and incidentally have a good time doing it. Join us - at $10 per person per year it is a bargain! I would also like to personally thank those Tehachapi Hospital employees who donate to the Hospital Foundation through the employee payroll deduction plan and all the members who give so generously of their time and money to sustain our events. The Foundation appreciates your support, we are all working together.
We have accomplished a lot this last couple of years; now we can focus on the next couple. There should be some real progress. Thank you again, and may we all have a safe, prosperous and healthy 2006. Sincerely,
Priscilla Mester

DUES ARE DUE NOW, FOR 2006. WE DO NOT SEND STATEMENTS BECAUSE OF THE COST.

Check your address label to verify when your membership expires. Renewal checks may be mailed to:
         THF Attn: Membership
         P.O. Box 734
         Tehachapi, CA 93581-0734

Remember, dues are due January 1 of each year and are in arrears the end of January. All members, if current, are invited to participate by assisting with special projects or events, publicity or becoming a Board Member. We always need ideas, input and help, plus you meet some pretty nice people. I know your frustration with apparent lack of progress on the new hospital, I have it also, but I do know there are many requirements that must be met before this type of public construction can proceed.

Due to conflict with state laws, to protect our non-profit status, our co-sponsorship of this event has been withdrawn!
CHECK OUT THE ENCLOSED FLYERS!

Rotary Club of Tehachapi plans to hold a Texas Hold’ Em Charity Round up/Tournament on Saturday, March 25, 2006, 6  to 10 p.m., at West Park Activities Center. The local charities involved are The Tehachapi Hospital Foundation, Tehachapi Main Street/Murals, and the Heritage League. Rotary has requested that we ask our members for help, dealing, serving food, drinks, set up/clean up - whatever we can do. Please offer to help. Check out the flyers, they need sponsors and, most of all, PLAYERS. It will be a fun evening and make some money for the Foundation. For additional information contact Harley Kunkel or Ken Caskey . If you want to work or help out contact Priscilla Mester, Foundation Second VP.

All you need do is present your “Community Partners Card” at time of purchase. We are preregistered with them and Foundation supporters may obtain such a card from the Treasurer, Sybil Matzinger. This plan really works; in 2005 donations to us from this plan were over $1100. Thank you, Albertsons!

Fremont Investment and Loan Deposit Incentive Donation Program

At the end of each calendar year Fremont Investment and Loan (an FDIC insured organization) will make a donation to our non-profit Foundation based on the annual average combined balance on deposit at Fremont by THF members. To qualify, funds simply need to be on deposit as of December 31st. No money is taken from the investor’s account; it is simply a donation from Fremont to the organization. To benefit the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation, open either a liquid account or certificate of deposit at any Fremont Investment and Loan Branch, and Identify yourself as a member or supporter of the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation. There is no minimum balance requirement to qualify for the program. The Hospital Foundation has been pre-qualified and all Fremont donations are made directly to the Foundation at no expense to you. This is a good way for all of us to further assist in reaching our Foundation’s goal anonymously and without expense. Thank you, Fremont! a report from the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation - Year 2004

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - Year End Report

First and foremost, I would like to thank each of you for a successful 2004. The fruits of your hard work were realized by the success of each fund raising event. Thank you for your dedication and support.

The Tehachapi Hospital Foundation membership year begins 1 January of each year. Those of you who have not sent in your 2005 dues are in arrear. Dues may be renewed for one or more years at a rate of $10 per person per year. Those who renew or join and elect to pay for multiple years may benefit by protection from dues inflation.  Our membership (2004) was at 435.  Let’s unite and work to increase our membership significantly this coming year.

We encourage you, our current members, to share this bulletin with your neighbors and friends and invite them to join this worthwhile organization. Especially share the purpose of our foundation with the many newcomers to the area who may not be aware of the importance of our hospital and its impact on our community. With new community growth comes the need to make quality health care available for the expanding population. The Tehachapi Hospital ER treats an average of 800 patients per month and requires use of an overflow hospital area every day. There is also a  long waiting list for Long Term Care.   It is imperative that we have a healthcare facility with the ability to treat heart attack, stroke, respiratory illness etc.  Tehachapi Hospital is equipped to offer X-ray and Laboratory services on site. It is important for all of us to realize that without our hospital we would find it necessary to travel more than 50 miles to Bakersfield or Antelope Valley for emergency medical care.   Our lives may well depend upon building this new hospital which will be a benefit to the community as a whole.

Old and new members are invited to participate by assisting with special projects or events, publicity, or becoming a Board Member. For more information contact Priscilla Mester, Hospital Foundation Board President at 661- 822-6159 or via e-mail - “mester56@isp.com”.  If you would want to join and just be an inactive member, please feel free to do so.  We would, however, like your permission to publish your name as a supporter of the Foundation.

Risking alienation by harping, if you have not paid your 2005 dues please stop reading and send your membership check ($10 per person per year) right now! This is our only opportunity to remind you. We do not send membership statements because of the cost but do have the ability to track membership well into the future (several memberships have renewed through 2009).  Checks may be mailed to:

        THF Attn:  Membership
        P.O. Box 734
        Tehachapi, CA. 93581-0734

If for any reason you choose not to renew your membership, we would be very interested in hearing from you.  We feel that each member’s view should be heard. Please forward your comments to Terri Alvarez (822-0336), e-mail to “terrialvarez@sbcglobal.net” or THF Attn: Terri, P.O. Box 734, Tehachapi, CA 93581-0734.  In Unity we stand.  Let’s all work together!

Priscilla Mester, Chair

Bacchus and Blossoms,
A Garden Experience
The fun starts now!

Our first event for this year will be "Bacchus and Blossoms, A Garden Experience".  Ed Sampson of Mourning Cloak Ranch has generously offered the use of his botanical gardens to host the "Bacchus and Blossoms" fund raiser on June 25, 2005 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Our theme this year is based on the Greek Mythological God "Bacchus, son of Zeus".  Bacchus or Dionysus, as he was also known, is the God of Wine and Festivities.  We invite you to join us for wine tasting, “heavy” hor d' oeuvres, entertainment, a silent auction and a tour of the beautiful gardens. In order to make this event a success, we will need your help with the following:

Cookies for the Cookie Sale
We are looking for volunteers to make cookies. Do you have a special cookie recipe that you would be willing to bake and share?  Cookies should be “out of the ordinary” such as rum balls, Mexican wedding cake cookies, Italian cookies, or any unusual cookie recipe you might like to share.  The cookies should be less than 2" in size as we plan to sell them as “buyer’s choice assortments”, by the container purchased at the sale.  If you would be interested in participating you must contact Laura Howser at 661-822-7030 or via e-mail at laurahowser@hotmail.com to receive the requisites as determined by the County for “bake sales”. These rules are not at all difficult to follow, common sense, really, but shall be observed for safety. Thus, you do not need to be present to help with this worthwhile event.

Baskets for the Silent Auction
An auction would not be complete without baskets.  Donations are needed to create the following types of baskets, or others:
    1.    Garden Basket
    2.    Ladies Spa/Pamper Basket
    3.    Golf Basket
    4.    BBQ Basket
    5.    Tea Basket
    6.    Craft/Hobby Basket
    7.    Movie Basket
    8.    Harley Basket
    9.    Chocolate Basket
   10.    Gourmet/Wine Basket
   11.    Picnic Basket
   12.    Misc Basket
Please note that all donated items must be new.

Cash donations are also appreciated.  Your contact person for all basket donations, monetary or otherwise is Jett Tracz.   Jett may be reached via e-mail at ask4jet@aol.com.

Ticket price will be $35. Watch your local newspaper for event/ticket information.

Remember Save the date…June 25, 2005
from 4-7 PM.
Bacchus invites you to join the festivities!
 Eat, Drink and be Merry!

Reminders!
Fremont Investment and Loan Deposit Incentive Donation Program

For the benefit of our newer members and those who may not be aware, at the end of each calendar year, Fremont Investment and Loan (an FDIC insured organization) will make a donation to our non-profit organization based on the annual average combined balance on deposit at Fremont by THF members.  To qualify, funds simply need to be on deposit as of December 31.   No money is taken from the investor's account; it is simply a donation from Fremont to the organization.  To benefit the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation, open a liquid account or certificate of deposit at any Fremont Investment and Loan Branch and identify yourself as a member or supporter of the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation.  There is no minimum balance requirement to quality for the program.  The Hospital Foundation has been pre-qualified and all Fremont donations will be made directly to the Foundation.  This is a good way for all of us to further assist in reaching our Foundation's goal anonymously and without additional expense. Through last year, Fremont had donated over $620 to our cause through this program. Thank you Fremont! For information, contact 1-661 327-9311 (1-800 fre-mont) or www.1800fremont.com.

Albertsons’ Community Partners Plan

Albertsons Food and Drug chain provides a “Community Partners” plan.  Through this plan, Albertson's will donate to this pre-registered charity an amount based upon your total purchases. Tehachapi Hospital Foundation is pre-registered. To obtain your card, contact Priscilla Mester at 22-6159.   Since August 2003, Albertsons has donated over $1,800 to the Foundation through this program.
Thank You, Albertson’s
Get your card now and help make our dollars grow!

Another Donation Opportunity

If you have an operating automobile that you would like to dispose of, consider donating it to the Foundation.  Since the inception of this program, three vehicles have brought in $4,500.  If you would like further information, please contact Ray Hino, CEO, Tehachapi Hospital at 823-3001. You Can Help!

Perhaps you know of an entity with funds available or which can be made available to donate to our nonprofit corporation in support of a new hospital. We would be happy to supply such an organization or individual with whatever documentation they may require to prove our worthiness as a recipient. Such an entity may be someone you know, a friend, an employer, someone you do business with, a corporation, a private foundation or even a governmental body. It is imperative to maximize our exposure to potential benefactors that we offer our nonprofit public benefit corporation as a potential recipient wherever funds may be dispersed. You are our eyes and ears to these opportunities.

Miscellanea

We continue to solicit unique fund raising event ideas; if you have any, please pass it on to one of our directors, or attend a meeting and share it. Regarding meetings, the Foundation meetings are the SECOND TUESDAY of each Month at 6 p.m. in the Hospital Conference Room. These meetings are open and members and non-members are always welcome to attend. We try to limit the length of our meetings to one hour, however on occasion they run a little longer. Please do attend.
plm

Yet Another Reminder

While you are on this report page please look down at your address label to verify when your Foundation membership expires. Please consider adding another year or more to that date to further benefit the organization and promote our mission to ultimately benefit you with a new medical facility. The cost is only $10 per additional year per person. Caveat:  Membership dues, including prepaid dues, are donations and are not refundable.

If you are currently a member, a new application need not be returned with your dues unless your situation and/or the information has changed. Each new “member-to-be” must return a filled out membership application with their dues. Applications are available from any Director or Priscilla Mester, Membership Chair. Note that if spouses are both members, as we hope they are, but have different expirations, we must send each a copy of this report with their own label; if their expirations are the same only one report/label is required, at an obvious savings to the Foundation.

a report from the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation - Year  2003

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - Year End Report

I am very pleased to be able to report to our membership on the continued progress made by the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation.  Our major accomplishments for the past 12 months, have been the First Annual “Dancing with Diamonds” ball, the Third Annual Round Up, and several unique fundraising events that have served to keep the Foundation’s goals in the forefront of our community.   The fundraising events included a Lasagna Luncheon, sponsored by the Tehachapi Lions Club, a Hobo Dinner, sponsored by the homeowners of Mountain Aire Estates, a Chamber of Commerce Auction and a Mexican Dinner, sponsored by the employees of Tehachapi Hospital.   All of these efforts have resulted in gifts and contributions to the Foundation that now total just under $100,000 at our year end. Next year already looks like it will be even better.  A new event that is planned for the Spring season is the “Tehachapi Fiesta of the Gaited Horses.”  This event was originally planned for November but had to be cancelled due to the horrendous fires in Southern California.  We plan to use the extra time to make this event even better than originally planned.  Also, soon after the first of the year, we will begin planning again for the Fourth Annual Tehachapi Hospital Round Up.  The 2003 event brought in nearly $24,000.

As I acknowledged last year, we are indebted to the generosity and hard work of our Guild of Tehachapi Hospital.  In 2002 the Guild pledged $250,000 for new equipment for the new Tehachapi Hospital.  Although the pledge is payable in 5 years, the Guild reports that they are ahead of schedule in their fundraising.  We are hopeful this year that other organizations, groups and employers in our community will make pledges of their own, as well.  If we are to be successful as a Tehachapi Hospital Foundation it will take the efforts of everyone in this community, doing their part.

I would like to close with my very best wishes for a very safe and happy holiday season for all of our friends and members of the greater Tehachapi community.
Sam Conklin, M.D.
President

Membership Report
The current roster (end of November) of dues-paid Associates stands at 549 for the year, 54 of those with dues-prepaid through 2004, with 14 of those prepaid through 2005 and 7 of those prepaid even longer.. Our current membership roster includes seventeen with the title Doctor whose support is most helpful and greatly appreciated.

Dues are now being solicited for the membership year 2004. Any current Associate may option to renew for one, two, three or more years as they wish. The current new/renewal rate is $10 per year for each individual with the advantages to the Associate for multiyear renewal being inflation-of-dues protection, not having to remember to renew and being spared the hassle of our begging each year. The Foundation benefits by getting interest on your advanced payment and not having the expense of bugging you for dues.

According to the Bylaws, renewal dues not in by 31January2004 result in a “not in good standing” Associate. For your convenience the expiration (year paid through) of your membership is printed at the top of your address label.
Throughout the year 80 names had been removed from the roster for one reason or another, some had moved away, and unfortunately some had died, but the majority have simply just not sent in their dues, perhaps not realizing that dues are an annual requirement, unless they have been prepaid. We will send this year end report to current members and to those who have not paid dues for 2003 and hope to receive dues for the year 2004 from all who have not prepaid. We need your support!

Near Year-End Financial Report
As of 31 October 2003 the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation balance sheet shows net assets of $98,580, up $66,109 during the last 12 month period. The 2003 “Round-Up” fund raiser was a success, netting approximately $24,000 over expenses; other 2003 fund raisers have netted about $6,000; membership has netted about $3,800; and other donations have amounted to about $21,000. Complete financial records are available per state requirements.

Board of Directors
The following Associates are currently serving on the Board of Directors; their term expiration year and their position, if any, on the Executive Committee is shown:
Bailey, Rev. C.    2004
Bardecker, H.    2005
Conklin, Dr. S.    2004    Chair
Hopkins, A.    2005
Kimball, L.    2004    2nd Vice-Chair
King, J.    2004    Secretary
Kramer, J.    2005
Lask, E.    2006
Maben, D.    2006
Mercola, F.    2006
Mester, P.    2006    Treasurer
Novinger, G.    2004    Vice-Chair
Souza, P.    2005
Van Kopp, E.    2006
Velguth, T.    2005
The Foundation wishes to thank the Reverend Clyde Bailey for his services on the Board. In January we will welcome JoAnne Huckins as a Director newly elected to serve until January 2007. Other election results extended the director terms of Dr. Sam Conklin, Leslie Kimball, Joeann King, and George Novinger to early January 2007. We thank the members for returning their ballots, over 350 of you did so.

A Backward Glance
The January “Dancing with Diamonds” fund raiser at the Oak Tree Country Club was an enjoyable event that netted over $1600 to the Foundation. We have the Tehachapi Lions Club to thank for their fabulous Lasagna Luncheon fund raiser which allowed them to donate $3,000 to the Foundation. We and the Lions thank the local lasagna chow hounds, as well, for without them • • • well, who knows? And, speaking of chow, let’s not forget the girth and treasury enhancing 2003 Hobo Event fund raiser which netted over $4,350 and the TVHD Sunshine Fund’s Mexican Lunch/Dinner enabling them to donate $1,300 to our Building Fund. Eating for a good cause • • • like we need another excuse! This was hardly a year to go hungry (or diet even), it was a year to BE hungry..

It Bears a Repeat
For the benefit of our newer members and those who did not previously notice:
At the end of each calendar year, Fremont Investment and Loan (an FDIC insured organization with a branch office in Bakersfield) will make a donation to your non-profit organization based on the annual average combined balance on deposit at Fremont by its members. To qualify, funds simply need to be on deposit as of December 31. (Source: Fremont Deposit Incentive Donation Program Brochure) No money is taken from the investor’s account, it is simply a donation from Fremont to the organization. To benefit the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation, anyone simply needs open a liquid account or certificate of deposit at any Fremont Investment and Loan branch and tell them that they are a member or supporter of the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation. There is no minimum balance requirement to qualify for the program. The Foundation has been pre-qualified to benefit from this program and all Fremont donations that result will be made directly to the Foundation. It seems a good way for you to further assist our goals, although anonymously, but without expense to you. Please check it out, 661-327-9311, 800-fre-mont, or www.1800fremont.com. Time is running out for a benefit this year!

This plan really does work and resulted in an over $150 donation from Fremont in April based on the last end of year total deposits of Foundation supporters. This amount is surprising since the plan was actually little known by our supporters in 2002.

Rural Health Design Consortium
by Ray Hino, CEO Tehachapi Hospital
Last year I reported to you on the creation of the Rural Health Design Consortium (RHDC) and the fact that Tehachapi had been selected to be the pilot test site for the Consortium’s objective of obtaining funding to rebuild small rural hospitals in California. Due to the efforts of the RHDC we are now on our way toward replacing Tehachapi Hospital. During the summer months of 2003 we conducted a mail out survey (opinion survey) of registered voters in our community. A random sample of 5,400 voters received a 4-page survey form through the mail. Over 1,600 people returned their surveys to the survey collection agency in Fresno. This is an amazing 30% response rate!

This survey instrument gave us very good data on the types of medical services that are currently being used by Tehachapi residents and the types of services that they would support being kept locally in the community. A review of public data from the State of California revealed that $93,000,000 in hospital services left the Tehachapi community in 2001! Imagine if only a fraction of that amount could be kept locally.  It would be a benefit not only to local providers but also the local economy.  Other information that was gathered through this process, revealed that nearly 84% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that a new medical facility is needed in Tehachapi.

Due to the support of the Rural Health Design Consortium and the community as a whole, the Tehachapi Hospital Board of Directors has agreed to place a general obligation bond measure on the March 2004 primary election ballot.  Please watch the local newspapers for details of this election.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters and friends in the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation.  2003 was a great year. 2004 will be better.

Community Partners Plan
The Albertson’s Food and Drug chain has a “Community Partners” plan, whereby they basically will donate to your preregistered charity an amount based upon your total purchases at any Albertson’s in the USA. All you need do is present your “Community Partners Card” at time of purchase. We are, indeed, preregistered with them. Foundation supporters may obtain such a card from the Treasurer, Priscilla, at 822-6159. This plan, also, really works and has resulted in donations of over $290 from Albertson’s in August and an additional $403 in November.

From the Editor
Since the “masthead” chosen by your editor last year was well received, and no one objected, it will continue. For the benefit of the new members, it was chosen to symbolize and project what this organization is about and what it must do. A “force” is a group of people organized for a specific purpose, the capacity to exert an influence, and the power used to overcome resistance. The right force can “move mountains”, however we will settle for building a new healthcare facility.

Just recently we applied for and received our Nonprofit, postage paid Permit as indicated on this newsletter, the intent being increased communication with our membership, additional newsletters during the year, and  notification of coming events . This nonprofit postage permit is a bit slower perhaps, but far less expensive to mail. The number of editions has not been decided, we will see what there is of importance to pass on. It has been our experience that most of the time “word of mouth” travels faster than any speed we could obtain.

We constantly strive to increase our membership. Talk with your friends and neighbors about the Foundation, and the need to replace the existing hospital; some still do not know of the January 2008 deadline. This project effects everyone in the Tehachapi area; if they are not already supporters, find out why! We all take the hospital for granted - assuming it will always be there. This is no longer true. What if there were no hospital facility in Tehachapi? Healthcare is at a critical crossroads throughout this nation. We have little control of the nation, but we do have control over what happens here in Tehachapi. We are the “FORCE” locally, and we do have the “POWER” to make this a reality.

We try to limit the length of our meetings to 1 hour, however on occasion they run a little longer. Please do attend.     plm

Yet Another Reminder
While you are on this report page look down at your address label to verify when your Foundation membership expires. Applications are available from any Director or Priscilla Mester, Membership Chair. Note that if spouses are both members, as we hope they are, but have different expirations, we must send each a copy of this report with their own label; if their expirations are the same only one report/label is required, at a saving to the Foundation.

Unique Donation Opportunity
Do you have an operating automobile you wish to dispose of? Consider donating that treasure to the Foundation to reap whatever tax rewards that donation may offer. Since our inception three such vehicles have resulted in $4500 added to the Foundation treasury. Contact the CEO of the Tehachapi Hospital for further details.

a report from the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation - Year  2002

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - Year End Report

“I   am very pleased to be able to report to our membership that we have been very successful in our first full year of operation as the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation. Our major accomplishments for the past 12 months, have been the Second Annual Round-Up, the First Annual “Dr. C’s Pumpkin Run” to benefit the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation, a new logo design and an advertising campaign at the movie theater.  All of these efforts have resulted in dues, earnings, gifts and contributions to the Foundation in excess of $34,000 by the end of the year and over 375 new members!
And next year already looks like it will be even better, as we plan for our First Annual “Dancing with Diamonds” dinner dance on January 11, 2003.  We are already in the planning stages for the Third Annual Round-Up and the Second Annual Pumpkin Run.
In addition to all of this, we are very excited about the gift that we received in November from the Guild of Tehachapi Hospital. Our wonderful Guild pledged $250,000 for new equipment for the new Tehachapi Hospital. The pledge will be payable in 5 years. One of our major objectives for 2003 will be to challenge other organizations, groups and employers to make pledges of their own. If we are to be successful as a Tehachapi Hospital Foundation it will take the efforts of everyone in this community, doing their part.
Finally I would like to close with my very best wishes for a very safe and happy holiday season for all of our friends and members of the greater Tehachapi community. We appreciate everything that you do to make us successful throughout the entire year.”
Sincerely,
Sam Conklin, M.D.

Membership Report
The current roster (end of November) of dues-paid Associates stands at 374 for the year, 105 of those with dues-prepaid through 2003 and 5 of those prepaid through 2004. Our current membership roster includes five local doctors whose support is most helpful and greatly appreciated.

Dues are now being solicited for the membership year 2003. Any current Associate may option to renew for one, two, three or more years as they wish. The current new/renewal rate is $10 per year for each individual with no particular advantage to the Associate for multiyear renewal except inflation-of-dues protection, not having to remember to renew and being spared the hassle of our begging each year. The Foundation, however, benefits greatly by getting interest on your advanced payment and not having the expense of begging you for dues.

According to the Bylaws, renewal dues not in by 31January2003 result in a “not in good standing” Associate, and really, who wants to be one of “them”? For your convenience the expiration of your membership is printed at the top of your address label.

Near Year-End Financial Report
As of 30 November 2002 the Tehachapi Hospital Foundation balance sheet shows net assets of $34,600, up $26,800 during the last 11 month period. The “Round-Up” fund raiser was a success netting approximately $11,000 over expenses. The Schall Chiropractic sponsored “Pumpkin Run” raised about $1,000; membership dues have netted about $3,800, and donations have amounted to about $14,800. Complete financial records are available per state requirements.

From the Hospital C.E.O.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire staff of Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District it is my pleasure to thank all of our Foundation supporters and to provide you with this annual report for 2002:

 Rural Health Design Consortium :
Created in December of 2000, the Rural Health Design Consortium (RHDC) is an organization that is committed to its goal of creation of a model health care system in rural California. The ultimate goal is to develop a new health facility design that would assist in the long term health of each rural community.  Tehachapi Hospital is one of 12 active members of the RHDC.  The good news for Tehachapi is that we have been selected by the RHDC as its test site.  That means that we will be the first community to conduct a feasibility analysis to determine what our health care needs are and what types of facilities are needed.

Grant applications have already been submitted for funding this project. If we are successful, Tehachapi will receive the following services, as a part of a community wide assessment:
    Develop a method that will ensure facility and community buy-in for change;
    Develop a community service inventory assessment tool;
    Develop a model to define current economic realities;
    Develop a process to evaluate the cost of existing services and the cost effectiveness of new services;
    Develop a method to determine the health needs of the community;
    Develop a method to assist communities in the development of partnerships;
    Develop methods that will aid communities in understanding the financial realities of the current health system;
    Research and develop a method to monitor the health of the community as change is implemented;
Research and develop a new health facility design that would assist in the long-term health of the community.

This is very exciting for all of us in Tehachapi.  This is the first step in getting funding for a new hospital.  Before we can approach any funding entities or organizations, the feasibility study must be completed.  It will be our major project for 2003.  We will certainly strive to keep all members of our community informed of our progress, but particularly the members of our Foundation who have worked so hard for this goal to be a reality.
Sincerely,
Raymond T. Hino

Ahead
The “masthead” of this year-end report was chosen by your reporter to symbolize and project what this organization is about and what it must do. What’s in a name? A “force” is a group of people organized for a specific purpose, the capacity to exert an influence and the power used to overcome resistance. The right force can even “move mountains”, but we’ll settle for building a new hospital.

As we go to press, some really exciting plans are in the works for 2003. In January will be the Dancing with Diamonds event at Oak Tree Country Club. This promises to be a very chic evening, but seating is limited.

The annual "Round-Up" fund-raiser is in the early planning stages, as well as the 2003 "Pumpkin Run", which was very successful this year in spite of the short planning time. We continue to solicit fun fund-raising event ideas; if you have any, please contact Leslie Kimball.

We are also constantly striving to increase membership. It is up to all of us to make whomever we talk with aware of the Foundation and the urgent need for replacement of the existing hospital. If they are not already  supporters, find out why. Pose the question, what if there were no hospital facility in Tehachapi?

Things have a way of taking off, having a snow ball effect, and this is what appears to be happening right here, right now. Just heard, the Tehachapi Lyons Club has decided to hold a fund raiser for the Foundation; the plan is a fabulous lasagna luncheon. The target date is January 30, 2003, tickets will be available at tentative cost of $8. If you ever plan to eat, plan to eat in; it will be held at the Veterans Hall with the time to be advised. It is my understanding that large orders (that is several lunches to one destination) can be delivered, ∙ ∙ ∙ more on this as things are finalized. This news was relayed to me by a long time friend, Leah Schaefer who, several years ago was the driving force behind these wonderful lasagne lunches as a fund raiser for another community organization. These lunches became so successful, just about everyone looked forward to them. They have been sorely missed, by those of us who have been here long enough to have had the pleasure. Put that date on your calender, tell your friends, buy tickets and support this fund raiser by “DOING LUNCH”.

There are some other events in the works, but nothing so definite at this time that we can relay it to you.

Food for Thought Cited in McHenry’s Quips:
At a county fair, the townspeople held a horse-pulling contest. The first-place horse ended up moving a sled weighing 4,500 pounds. The second -place finisher pulled 4,000 pounds. The owners of the two horses decided to see what these horses could pull together. They hitched them up and found that the team could move 12,000 pounds. By working separately, the two horses were good for only 8,500 pounds. When coupled together, their synergism produced an added 3,500 pounds. It’s a hard lesson for us, but unity consistently produces greater results than individual endeavors. “Teamwork divides the effort and multiplies the effect.”
WHAT A CONCEPT!

Yet Another Reminder
While you are on this report page look down at your address label to verify when your Foundation membership expires. Please consider adding another year or more to that date to further benefit the organization and promote our mission to ultimately benefit you with a new medical facility. The cost is only $10 per additional year per person. If you are currently a member a new application need not be returned with your dues unless your situation and/or the information has changed. Each new “member-to-be” must return a filled out membership application with their dues. Applications are available from any Director or Priscilla Mester, Membership Chair. Note that if spouses are both members, as we hope they are, but have different expirations we must send each a copy of this report with their own label, but if their expirations are the same only one report/label is required, at a saving to the Foundation.
